Agartala, Aug 17: On Friday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reaffirmed his administration's strict stance against drug trafficking and substance misuse, urging law enforcement and security forces to enhance their efforts against this illegal activity.
“Our battle against drugs in Tripura intensifies daily. This year, we have seen a 132% increase in the destruction of drugs, while seizures have risen by 104%,” Dr. Saha stated during the inauguration of a voluntary blood donation camp in Agartala.
Concerned about the rising trend of drug addiction among youth in the state, the Chief Minister called on parents to stay alert. “Law enforcement has been directed to take action against anyone involved in drug-related activities. We are committed to apprehending the masterminds and eliminating this issue from our society,” he emphasized.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the significance of voluntary blood donation, describing it as a commendable act that cannot be purchased. He pointed out that approximately 15% of the population has a rare blood type, underscoring the need for adequate blood reserves for emergencies.
Additionally, he discussed the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' tree plantation initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he described as both an environmental necessity and a tribute to mothers. “A fully grown tree can produce around 260 pounds of oxygen and absorb nearly 50 pounds of carbon dioxide each year. Planting trees is not just a gesture of respect but also a vital investment in our environment,” he remarked.
Addressing the state's development, Dr. Saha acknowledged that restoring Tripura after years of poor governance by the Communists and Congress will require time. Nevertheless, he reiterated his government's dedication to creating a “beautiful and prosperous state.” He also noted India's ascent from 11th to 4th in the global economy under Prime Minister Modi and mentioned that Tripura now ranks second in the Northeast for both Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and Per Capita Income.
